I’m Here for You
What actually is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of healing that encourages our bodies to re-calibrate themselves. The body heals on its own, but sometimes if we have become out of balance, it can benefit from a gentle nudge to get things back on track. For example, if we get a cold, and we do nothing about it, chances are it will go away on its own eventually. But if we have a way of giving the body’s healing systems a helping, healing hand, it may speed up the process.
Reiki is a form of healing that uses energy, directed by the practitioner into the client. It is non-invasive and can be done with or without touch.
How is it pronounced?
“Ray-kee” It is a Japanese word, meaning ‘universal energy’
Is it a religion?
No. Mikao Usui, who devised it as a healing method, was a Buddhist Monk and a teacher, but Reiki is not based on or derived from Buddhism. (Buddhism is not so much a religion as a peaceful way of life.) It does not stem from, or go against, any world religion. It is peaceful and universal.
How can it work if you aren't even touching me?
The Reiki Practitioner has been attuned so that they can channel and direct Universal Reiki energy into their client. So do this with, and some without touch. We are all made of energy and this radiates out from our bodies, which is how we can sometimes sense when someone is close to us when we cannot see or hear them.
Isn't it just a load of quackery?
Thankfully - no! In recent years studies have been carried out on Reiki as a form of healing and its benefits have been shown. For example, hospitals are starting to recruit Reiki Healers to work with patients.https://reikirei.co.uk/reiki-healing-in-nhsReiki is increasingly regulated and there are professional Reiki councils which register practitioners, although this is not yet a legal requirement. However in order to practice, practitioners must be properly trained and insured.
Does is clash with modern medicine?
No. Reiki is an example of a 'complementary' healing system, literally meaning that it works alongside other Therapies such as modern medicine. Practitioners are taught that Reiki is not and should never be put forward as an alternative. There are certain health conditions where caution is warranted, those are few, and will always be discussed privately with an interested client.
